Fuel gauge reads 1/8th tank.
I normally search before posting search but I didn't this time so bear with me.
My fuel gauge is not working. It will constantly read around 1/8th of a tank with the ignition on. I will be installing a FASS system soon and plan on looking into the gauge issue at the same time. Since it looks like the system may actually work, I was thinking the float could be bad causing it to sit in that same spot? What are your thoughts on this idea? What kind of float do these trucks use? I have had to replace a couple on other rigs in the past that were simple brass floats. The fuel would eat them up and make them leak. I have a couple spares in the shop that could be swapped in if these are the same. Just trying to see what I may need for this project so I can possibly lift the bed one time to take care of both projects. Any help would be great. Thanks, Ken |
it uses a real hard foam/plastic material or something i just replaced mine because it was always reading full. turned out the mechanism just fell off the pickup assembly, i replaced it anyway because the float material was wasting away on the corners and i was installing a draw straw. new one cost me 70 sumpthin bucks at the steal-er-ship..

Some threads on this situation stated that premature damage can occur to the float assembly if the high volume fuel pumps are used during fill ups. The float really takes a beating as the fuel washes in. Kurt

I'll look at the float first.
$70.00 for a float is a bit high. I'll search for a better price |
