Fuel Additives, Do you use them??
 

How many of you guys use Fuel Additives and which ones are you using? I haven't been using any, but this is the coldest it has been since I got my truck 3 years ago. Is it needed? Have I just been lucky so far? This is my first diesel. So far, no fuel related issues. Thanks

I forgot about the change of subject near the end. ;)<br><br>I use Howes Diesel Treat 6-8oz every tank for lubrication of the injection system, and anti-gelling.<br>I have used Power-Service white bottle in a pinch (works well and is available at Wall-Mart).<br>Others use Lucas, Amsoil, Stanadyne, STP, and others.<br>They all work pretty much the same, there maybe slightly different additive packages in each.<br><br>Ed

Power Service with every fill up in the winter and every three or so in the summer.

Down here in the warm weather 8) all we need is a little lubricity for the vp44 IMHO. I use the Stanadyne and the Power Service...seems to work ;D

I use Howes Diesel Treat &amp; Meaner Power Kleaner in every tank. It's -15 this morning w/ the wind chill and a whopping 7 displaying on the overhead computer. ;D<br><br>Tony

I started on the Lucas (avail at my napa) Got better mpg went from 14 to 19. I won't mention the weather. Was 50 ish this morning with rain. We do get cold here once in a while. Maybe the teens. ;D

I just started using Power Service, after i use it up i'm going to try the Rotella stuff.

Varmit,<br> I have had my CTD for 3 1/2 years now, and only one fule related problem (yes, cold weather). I don't use fuel additives, and the only problem I had was making the mistake of filling up at a regular station that had a diesel pump. The fule guage didn't come off the full peg until I ran most of that tank out and filled up with the Knox Winterguard (winterized fuel) at a truck stop. It is my observation so far that if you use the winterized fuel from the truck stops, additives aren't necessary unless you are in really cold weather (below zero). <br> A practice I have made is to never let the tank get more than half empty before filling in cold or wet weather, and you will have less worry about water in your fuel also.<br> Welcome to diesel ownership!

I am located in the cold of Canada. I use fuel additives year round. Stanadyne is good, but it gells up under extreme cold. With Howes, I notice a bit more power but Howes doesn't handle water contamination as well as Diesel Aid. So, when it's winter I use Diesel Aid.<br>John

First owner used Power service from day one. I'm continuing with the same servicing schedlue and products he used. Truck runs great!!!

Power Service in mine. Temps dropped to below zero couple of times. Just a little added insurance ;D
