Front Speaker Size - 98 Ram
I was just wondering if anyone knew what size the front speakers in a 98 Ram 2500 reg cab without the Infinity system. I checked Crutchfield's site and it says 5 1/4", but I went to my stereo dealer today and they looked in their Crutchfield catalog at the fitment guide and it said 6x9", Alpine's website states the same size as Crutchfield online. I'm upgrading the sound system and wanted to know before I got it all apart and found out it's not going to fit.

Fronts are 6x9.

front holes are 6x9 but a lot of 6x9 speakers are too deep to fit so most shops make an Mdf plate up to allow them to mount 6.5 or 5.25" speakers up front.

You can mount 6 1/2 using a piece of abs plastic as your new mounting plate. Most audio shopa sell this, but if you have a spare piece of mdf that will work as well.

Hey Mike D....or,
What is mdf? Do you know the size of the back door speakers (+98 opening)? Thanks L |
Do any of you know where I can get a subwoofer enclosure to fit behind the seat, preferably in canada. I thought I could get Q-Logic enclosures through Canadian Tire as they are a dealer for Keystone now... but they're not approved to sell the Q-Logic stuff in Canada. or another company that sells similar products, if it was an ext cab there wouldn't be a problem. I'd really like to sub this thing.
I was also wondering which speaker would be better to put in the front 6x9 or 6.5"? |
go to a local stereo shop or build your own .you got room back there for a "standard" truck wedge box of about 1.75-2.0 cubic feet internal volume and you can still put the seats all the way back (and tilt) at leas I had enough room in my 01 regular cab.
I'd put 6.5" component speakers in my front doors if it was me :) |
Not to get hijack this thread, but does anyone know where I can find instructions for removing the doorpanel of a 1997 Ram? Maybe the rear trim panel too? I just installed a new Alpine Headunit tonight and would like to upgrade the rest of my stereo shortly.
Thanks, Tim |
I just removed both of them for no real reason the other week. well ok the one speaker died (stupid infinity system) and the back panel to get my cb coax in. the door panel was the screws in the handel, and I think one screw by the mirror? then it pulls out. its full of all those xmass tree things. Lift up and out I think to clear the handel and locking button. As for the back pannel you need to be more carfull. It uses those stupid steel clips that are only held to the pannel with tiny bits of melted plastic like the A-Pillar covers. You need to take teh cap off the seatbelt and take the bolt out. Then just be real carefull prying it apart. I used a long screw driver in there to help get the thing off without breaking those metel clips off the panel. As it is 2 at the top were broken off from someone befor? hope some of this helps.

Do you know the size of the back door speakers (+98 opening)? In short, I mounted the top two screws in the 6 1/2 frames to the existing 6x9 holes [which hold them quite securely]. As for the bottom part of the 6x9 opening, it was covered when I installed Dynamat Xtreme to the door frame. Although this will read quite crudely to those into stereo competitions and such, it works perfectly well for the less "audiophillic" out there. As for the rear doors, those openings will accept 6 1/2s. I'm using Infinity's 6002i two-ways for this. BTW, I've got a new pair of 6000cs components in my living room if anyone decides to go with components for their front doors. Have a great evening, Bill |
