Fine metal particles in fuel filter
Fine metal particles in fuel filter
Was doing some PM, and pulled my fuel filter cannister after draining it. Noticed a little bit of what looks like fine metal particles in the residual fuel ( the stuff that did not drain out).
Stupid me, I did not think to check it with a magnet before I dumped it. It was a small amount and very fine. Not enough to leave any build up. I just noticed sparkles in the fuel.
Also found a small amount of water in there as well, but that is probably from me pulling the truck into my heated garage about once or twice a week for the entire night.
So any ideas? It is (most likely) the original lift pump. Hopefully not anything worse. Kevin

It could also be contamination from the filling station you're using - I had this problem once. I changed the fuel filter and started using a different station and haven't had anything like that show up since.
There aren't many places that small metal particles in the filter can come from. It's doubtful it's coming from the tank, most likely it's coming from the lift pump. It has one way check valves that will hammer out.
That's exactly what happened to my truck. The lift pump passed away and the filter caught the particles. It's amazing how well the filter works. vp-44 still going strong 40,000 later.
check the lift pump.....why bother it gone, just get another...spend 30 minutes installing and move on.
