Fears of buying a high mileage Cummins

To avoid problems. Drive it about 200 miles/day(5 days/week). If you have a summer vacation,,, one month( i do) drive it every day, till it warms up. Change oil at 10 kmiles.
Put a performance chip to it and finally,,, drive it like you stole it.
If you let it sit for a month, your dash will look alike christmastree. You will clean all the electrical connections that your truck has, to solve the problem. Or take it to the dealer that does it for you, and takes your house to cover the bill.

It is all relative to the vehicle itself. 150k is nothing for the Cummins 5.9. Biggest concern is whether the owner took care of the truck or not. If truck is in good shape, he has the documented maint records, kept up maintenance, you are good far as the Cummins 5.9 is concern. These engines will go 1 million miles without a rebuild if cared for properly. The truck itself and other drivetrain components, is another story all together. Read thru the Cummins forums, learn what to look for on Ram truck, pros and cons. Weak points and strengths, then you will be prepared to buy.

Im going to look at a truck today and am a bit concerned. My last 12v had a blown head gasket but ran fine until under load. That engine cost me allot of money and time because the failed head gasket pressurized the oil gallery and starved rear mains of oil..
