E30 to Cummins?

Hi, i've been lurking around this forum for a while, which i find to be very friendly, and was wondering if i should get a cummins. I have an old bmw that is in less than mint condition (some day i'll have a nice one) and was wondering if i should look for a cummins to replace it. Would it be worth my time to buy/look for a 2nd gen that is less than $10k? In that price range am i just going to inherit all the problems i already have with my car right now. So i guess i'm sayin are there nice cummins out there for 5k or do you have to pay a lot more to get one worth buying.

Anyways, if i cant find a good deal i am definately getting one after i get out of college. Which leads me to another question; i am not familiar with the suspension of 2nd gen trucks, and know they have problems. Could someone tell me all the components of the front suspension and what they do, or a diagram that includes all the components. I want to be knowledgeable about a truck before i buy one.

Thanks,
Andrew

From what I have seen on the market you could get a 2wd Cummins for low to mid 6's that is in decent shape with mileage in the high 100's low 200's. The moment you add 4wd the prices seem to go up quite a bit.

The basic principles of the suspension are similar to any car or truck on the road. Probably ball joints and shocks/struts will definitely have to be replaced if the truck your looking at has higher mileage.

What are the specific names of all the components or a picture so i can use the search function to learn about them. I dont know what components are needed to locate a solid axle.

So 2wd is cheaper, i was hoping to go from rwd to 4wd for snow but whatever.

THanks

Hey, I have an E30 too. I love the way it drives and handles, mine was a 325 super eta that I converted to a 327i by switching over the "i" engine parts and ECU.

Looks like you came to the right place if you are considering a Dodge Ram CTD.

Read this post. You sound just like me 2 years ago.

A 2wd 5spd won't give you nearly as many problems as a 4wd auto imo. Also, go with a 12v. Just make sure you consider your options before you buy. If there's another vehicle you like as much, I'd go with that in all honesty. These trucks are addicting and expensive to upgrade. If you've never owned a diesel truck, you're in for a change. Sorry, not trying to talk you out of it but just know that a diesel truck is a lot different than a BMW. Not to mention diesel is now 65 cents more than regular in my area. No joke...
