DRW or SRW

well back with some more options haha the truck hunt continues. Both trucks are at the same dealer, both 99 same options ones a dual ones single. cloth cd player, power driver seats, the main options. the dually has 360k and the single has 305k So both kinda high mileage. but yet another 100k till a overhaul. the maint schedual showed oil change every 5 k on the dually and every 75k on the single. both had lift pump replacement. So as far as that goes their neck and neck. Big questions are these. How much is the Mileage drop from a srw to the duals? And if I decide to take the duals off, how much does the axle stick out? ( just a thought) I know whats inplace if i did as far as the fenders go and fixing the bed just not sure whats involved in a dually axle. But for the most part just Curious on the MIleage changes. I dont need a dually at all really. i dont even pull a 5th whell trailer haha. but its 1600 less than the srw so If theres not much of a diffrence what the hell. I think i checked it all for maintence but if something should be checked i didnt mention let me know please haha. Thanks for the help

At that milage I would wonder if either had major work due to a KDP. I would choose the one that did.

MPG is not a measurable difference concerning a drw to a srw.

I d choose a manual. and check the trans to se if its been apart.

I hope they're pretty cheap with those kinda miles. Prolly used comercially as well, which tends to be tougher miles. Either one would be a crap shoot.

As for DRW vs SRW, I'd stay away from DRW unless you foresee using the extra capacity. Assuming the SRW is a 2500, it's a lot easier to park and rides a bit softer.

Yeah thats what i figured and passed. both were around the 6-7k range but i need sometihng thats gonna last

2500 and 3500 have identical springs under them. Ride should be the same.

yeah, only difference is 1" wider drum brakes and two more wheels. Tow capacity is same unless different axle ratios.

SINGLE--less rotating weight. more responsive.

Later versions have the same brakes.

Duallies take some getting used to, but I like mine. People get out of the way when they see you coming. I bought mine because we pull a bulldozer sometimes. Total weight of the trailor and dozer is close to 25,000 lbs. The dually is a lot more stable with that kind of weight. It sounds like you aren't going to pull much, but for the money savings I'd take a hard look at the dually. If you're running a lot of errands, they can be aggravating to park.

A lot of the duallies have 4:10 axles as does mine. That's great for pulling, but 17 mpg is about the best I've ever gotten. Several 2500 owners report over 20 mpg. As for the ride, I swear my coworkers 2500 rides a lot better than mine. I think it's the bigger tires. You might consider test driving them both on a rough road.

You mentioned taking the duals off. That might be more trouble than it's worth. The wheels are offset and you'd have to do something with the fenders.

Another thing to consider is your local vehicle tax laws.
I found out that Virginia gives a 70% rebate on personal property taxes on all vehicles under 7501 GVW.
My 3500 doesn't qualify which means I pay about $600 more a year in taxes for training wheels. >

At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate : , think of bridge and turnpike tolls if you use them daily. In some cases they're nearly double that of SWR "light trucks". When you're shelling out 4 bucks more a day to cross a bridge, it adds up quick.

Well some of these are great points. I guess i never really thought about the Taxes or Tolls. ONly place ive ever hit a toll is out on the eastern part of the US ( VA NY FL) stuff like that here in iowa that wouldnt be a problem but the taxes got me by suprsie. I have a 2500 diesel, Well i dont but the family does that ive drivin quite a bit. We have a extra set of dare i say Regular wheels and tires from that when we decided we wanted something to set the truck apart from the rest. Ive looked at the 3500 and the back looks alright as far as spacing would go. im worried about the front cause ive never been able to get a good look at the bare axel to see if the axel is the same as the 2500s or not. As far as the fenders go Yeah my neighbor has a custom and repair body shop. and ive run countless errens for him through the years so he said he could repair the side of the bet at little or no cost. Im like it better be no cost or you owe me $15 dollars a hour for all that stuff ive done for you he got this look on his face like he just soiled himself haha. Its been many hours worth of stuff for him. But newho thank you for your opinions. They helped a ton

Speaking of tolls... cost me $130 a week ago to pull my three axle trailer to Philadelphia, Delaware, and Long Island. Gettin pricey up there.
