Driver's Side Power Window Won't Raise!

The driver's side power window on my truck stopped in the full down position. According to the service manual, the problem could be the (a) power window and lock switch bezel and/or (b) the regulator/motor. I was just wondering if anyone has had an opportunity to do either of those repairs. It doesn't look like it will be too much of a problem to remove the door panel and replace the switch; but replacing the regulator/motor looks quite a bit more involved. I would appreciate any tips, advice and/or other comments before I tackle this. The outside temps have been over 100° everyday so I will have to do this job as early in the am as possible. IMO, the power door locks work just fine as well as the passengers side window can be raised and lowered from the drivers side switch.

Pull the pull cup (handhold) by removing two screws. The switch panel, just forward of the cup hole, has a catch on it you can push in with a small driver or a flat blade. It pops up and out. Remove wire plug from window switch and short power with a wire. If window does not drive it may be the drive unit. I had a wire pinched off, repaired and all is good. On mine the power comes in on red at center of each switch.

If you need a switch assembly, I have one that I replaced when my driver's side motor went out.

Replacing the motor and control arm assembly is about a 1 hour job (including removing and replacing the door panel. I forgot where I got mine but is was about $80 and was delivered in a couple of days. You can get the door panel plastic replacement fasteners for about $5 at AutoZone.

Yep, had my drivers side window stay in the wide open position during a nasty wet norther. It was the switch and although it is of "open" construction, the contacts are not easily cleaned... The new one was cheap enough.

BTW, the switches have a motor shorting feature that stops the window motor almost instantly when the switch returns to the center position.
I had to jumper the motor to 12v to get mine to close and I found that it coasts quite a ways before finally stopping.

Here are the christmas tree clips that are needed for the door panel. If you can't find locally. Some of them WILL break getting the door panel off.

Carl, thanks for the link. Also, I appreciate the removal tips. Hopefully I can find the retaining clips locally, if not I'll order them from Parts Express.

While the door panels are off, you may also try whacking the inner door skin with a rubber mallet around the area where the motor mounts. Give it a few whacks while working the switch. I did that on my 2002 passenger side window and got it to working again.

I replaced the switch this morning and that did not solve the problem. Monday I'm going to the dealer and buy a regular/motor and see if that will fix it. If anyone has replaced the these parts, I would appreciate any advice. I've read the service manual and the only thing that scares me about this job is removing the glass and getting it back in there correctly.

Before replacing the motor/regulator, try and see if you can "help" it up. I had my passenge side window do the same thing. I pulled the door apart, hooked the switch up and the assisted the window up by pushing it and hold the switch in the up position. Window went up. I also greased the moving parts in the door. The window has been working trouble free for over a month now. If it doesn't help then I would try a new motor.
