Greetings from a diesel newbee with a new-to-me 1997 Ram 2500. I have an electrical question: Passenger-side low-beam headlight does not turn on when I pull the headlight switch. But, when I hit the hi-beams all 4 headlights come on, including passenger-side low-beam. I'm not sure where to trace this problem, any help out there?

Are you saying your truck has four headlight bulbs? If so, it sounds like somebody has installed quad Sport headlights from a newer truck. That being the case, you are at the mercy of whoever modified the wiring to make it work.
Let us know what you have and we'll try to help figure things out.

Thanks for replying, Torquefan. I should have clarified. All items are stock, so I do have two low-beam bulbs and two hi-beam bulbs.

With the switch at low-beam setting, driver's-side low-beam works, passenger-side low-beam does not.

With switch at hi-beam setting, BOTH low-beams are working and both hi-beams are working.

My confusion is that the passenger-side low-beam bulb is not "burnt out" because it comes on in the hi-beam setting, so the problem must lie elsewhere. Any ideas?

Like torque said, you have quad headlights from a newer truck from the Sport option era, they're stock parts, but your 97 wasn't originally wired for them. You'll want to check the wiring and see what is goin on....Could be a simple cross up or a complete rat nest....

And check that you have the 9004s and 9007s where they belong.

I won't say which goes where because the PO could have done something really non-standard.

If you don't have it yet, install a relais box for those headllights, the stock system is not really good for carrying the current of the 4 filaments lit on high beam.
