dash mounting..

I am trying to mount an inexpensive thermometer ($10 wally world) to the dash of my truck.. I routed the cable in and out the driver side fuse box and tied the probe to the wiring harness at the driver side door hinges..

At first the stick on velcro stayed on the dash but slowly the weight of the thermometer pulled it off.. Next I got a hot glue gun and it stuck for all of a day and peeled right off with a the snow and cold weather we got over the weekend..

Any suggestions to mount this?

Re:dash mounting..

Head to your local hardware store and find 3M brand stick on velcro. Clean your dash with a little alcohol prep pad and away you go. I have my GPS mount velcro'd on since Sept and thru warm and -30 and more weather, it's never loosened off yet. Hope it helps!!

Re:dash mounting..

Thanks.. someone off board recommened the 3M double face tape (used to hang stuff on the walls)which I used to stick the velcro to the dash yesterday.. It would have made more sense to just get 3M velcro though.. ohh well..

thanks

Re:dash mounting..

I find that double sided tape doesn't work well on the dash. Probably because of the heat in the summer.

Re:dash mounting..

Like Homestead said, the key is to clean the dash area with alcohol stick the velcro (any brand) and it will stay. I usually remove the object and then use (insert your favorite brand cleaner and protectant here) around the velcro (and entire dash while I'm at it).

Re:dash mounting..

If the tape fails, RTV silicone works like gangbusters and is not affected by heat. I used it to secure my mobile radio head to the dash.
