Cruise control woes

My cruise stopped working. First it would kick out every now and then, then it would just light "cruise" when switched on but wouldn't do anything when I push "set". Now even the cruise light will need several pushes of the button to be convinced to come on.

Anybody any ideas before I rip everything apart?

Thanks!

The most common cruise problem I see on these trucks is the thin plastic vacuum line will usually develop a leak under the driver side battery, usually from acid dripping on it. However, the problem with the light not coming on makes me think you might have a clockspring problem interfering with the switch circuit. Use caution here, as the airbag wiring runs through here too.

Does the horn work? I think both of them run through the clock spring. If it does not honk, you can be almost certain it is the clock spring.

The horn honks. The problems gradually got worse with the cruise control.
Fun part before was that the cruise ould work for some minutes and all off a a sudden it would just cancel. The cruise light remained on, but it would neither resume nor set to a speed again. Only way to get it back for some minutes would be to turn the truck off and wait for some minutes.

Also check the adjustment of the brake light switch. If you pull up the brake pedal with your toe and the cruise control works, the brake light switch needs to be readjusted.

Today I've got a code. P1585 - Cruise control solenoid failure.. I hope it's just some cable or the like- will check into the whole circuitry as soon as possible.
Another one showed up. Generator F winding circuit.

Doesn't look like my lucky week

We had the same problem with our Ford F-250 gasser, cruise just quit working. Servo failed. Refused to pay a shop to do it at over $400, so bought a Ford servo over the net for $236. Easy to do yourself except we had to drill out the bolts connecting the servo to the mount bracket, they were so hard to budge!
