With cold starts my power steering pump whines like a woman and I can feel it in the wheel. any suggestions? At the last service I checked the fluid and it was full. I do need to replace the vacume pump seal but am pretty sure that has nothing to do with it.

 

You could say it's normal, mine has done it since day one, a lot ot trucks still do it.

If you change out the steering fluid to a synthetic, it will go away but otherwise, no worries.

You should hear mine when it's -35 or colder out, scary noises my friend!

LMAO! yeah I have heard and felt that. lol... how long do you let the truck "warm up" before taking off?

 

Actually I don't at all. Truck is always plugged in, I start it, put my seatbelt on, adjust the radio volume, take a chug of java and off I go. I usually leave the house at about 5am so I can just chug thru town in 2nd gear. By the time I hit the highway, after a few lights with the exhaust brake on, it almost up to temp. Power sterring groan is gone within a few minutes.

I think all of them do it... I use synthetic fluid no more whine! Well not from the truck! The wife that's a different story!!

 

Yup, read this in another post somewhere, use synthetic PS fluid it should go away

 

Use Lubegard power steering treatment available at most any autoparts.
I use it in all my vehicles, works great even on a PS that squeals when it's hot or 40 below.

Just use a suction gun or turkey baster to remove the amount of fluid replaced by the Lubegard.
