Its a much cheaper and simpler option than buying a set of 2nd and 3rd gen mirrors and swapping the bases. These are 10X10, how big are the factory towing mirrors?

mine are great! much better than stock. pretty easy to put on also. its nice seeing behind our 5'ver when i need to.

I'm currently in the process of finishing the 2nd and 3rd generation power/heated swap and I'm loving them so far. It takes some time to do the project and figure it out, but the benefits are worth it. But, I have spent many hours on the mirrors to complete it. I was able to get one of the converted mirrors on the truck and it looks great, I will finish it up tomorrow with the driver side mirror. If I had to do it all over again...................I would just have bought the **** mirrors. Also, the tow mirrors are 7" by 10" so the aftermarket is a bigger mirror.

Thanks for the comments!!! I think I'll go with the **** ones. The only advantage I see to doing the 2nd/3rd gen franken mirror thing is that if I ever break a mirror it would be cheaper/easier to replace a factory one vs an aftermarket one. Other than that the ***** seem like the way to go.

I will buy a set of the **** mirrors and swap you for your converted ones if you want to "do it all over again"

My ***** have been great no problems. Much better than stock(well my 2nd gen stock ones anyway)

Got to much time invested in it I love the look of them now that is done but if I had to do it all over again I would have bought the **** mirrors first.

Tell me the scoop on this 3rd to 2nd swap. I have a 98 and can't see a darn thing. I would love to have the newer mirrors on!! THanks!

I think I like the **** better, visionview's mirrors(http://www.visionviewmirrors.com/ext...nt_mirrors.htm) extend 3" the **** go 4.5" Those look alot like the Ford mirrors. ***** are cheaper too.

the.hogman: To get the power 3rd gen mirrors on a 2nd gen truck you need to have a set of 3rd gen power mirrors and a set of 2nd gen manual TOWING mirrors. Then you swap the bases. I priced it out on e-bay at it was more money to buy the 4 factory mirrors that were needed than it was to buy the *****.

I had the Visionview mirrors for about two years until a Commuter bus took my driver's side mirror off a couple of months ago.
Went with the **** mirrors.
Like the ***** better.
Both were power and heated.
The larger regular mirror is a plus, but I need to find wedges for the little stick on wide angle mirrors so I can get them at different angles to be able to see better.
They work OK, but could be better.

Could you elaborate? My ***** should arrieve on Monday and will be installing them shortly thereafter. Are the wide angle mirrors aimed in or out too far? I guess being right on glass they move with the rest of the mirror. Do you find they are good for regular driving but go out of wack when adjusted out for towing?

I didn't install my wide angle mirrors on the glass, but on the mounting between the arms.
I'll try to pop a pic in here when I get home.
