Got any info to back that up? I find it hard to believe that all old rigs had them, but the newer ones were hit and miss........

If it DID have one, it was inside the factory muffler. My truck had stock exhaust when I got it that was unmolested. Only lumpy paart of it was the muffler.

That was my thought too. Working for Dodge back then, and midway through the 94 model year and up, they all got cats. I can't explain why yours would not have one, unless someone removed it and did a nice job making it look stock.

So, why would they go AWAY from them in 98.5? Unless you're speaking about Cali trucks only. I hang out around a diesel shop on a pretty regular basis, and have rarely seen an older one with one......

Those were just the 12 valves I was referring to. After they introduced the 24 valve engine, they could meet the emissions requirements of the day without a cat. (Until the high output engine in 2001.)
This was also up in Canada, where we never saw a truck with Cali emissions. I only ever saw one 12 valve with an EGR valve, and that was someone travelling from the US.

Well, I don't care now!

Met a guy at the airport this morning. Talked to him earlier this week about things. He flew up from Sacramento, looked at it for about 10 minutes in the airport parking lot, handed me a stack of benjamins about an inch thick, and headed south with a smile on his face.

SOLD!

Oh yeah. Had my cop brother there with me to help out if it went weird. I was skeptical, as there was a shload of cash on hand, and I don't know this guy from Adam.
Everything went great. Dude was a cool guy, and was not there to jerk me around at all. We had agreed on a price before he flew up.

And my brother checked the bills for authenticity. They were good enough to pass his judgement, and also at the bank.

I have a 98 12V from Arizona and I live in CA. I had to smog my truck last year. I have been told a few different answers regarding the cat. I was told some just have resonators and some have cats. I have a resonator which most take for a cat. Now the book for smog says all 98 federal(non CA Truck) have cats. None of them would listen when I told them mine has a resonator so I stuck it back on. Did it myself because it is illegal for a shop to install a used cat back on a vehicle. So they looked underneath saw the resonator and assumed it was a cat and passed it. Had to do a smoke snap test also. My suggestion is to put it back to stock and don't worry about if you have a cat or a resonator.

I'm not putting anything back to stock!!! If the new owner wants to, that's fine.

I am a little curious why mine didn't have anything other than a muffler. There were no mod's done to the truck when I bought it. It would be pretty tough to patch an exhaust back together after deleting a section or component.

Like I said, though. I'm not concerned anymore. Just a bit curious.
I traded the truck for this:
