Cab Mount SOS
Cab Mount SOS
I am in the middle of re doing my whole entire truck...Tore up the rug and am currently replacing the entire floor...then I realized how bad the cab mounts really are when I opened up the floor. I need cab mount really on both sides I need brand new ones they are both pretty shot... I know alot of people have this problem so I am seeing what they did or where they obtained any... Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated thanks alot.
I just re-did my floors as well. Even though I thought I did a good job waterproofing the underside last year, some holes appeared and let the water up under the carpet. I should have overlapped and used plug welds when I did the work. live and learn. This time I replaced the pans and put a couple coats of epoxy primer and frame paint on there. I should have put plastic sheet under the carpet. Also make sure to waterproof all the screws and bolts that exit thru the floor, they will conduct water and rust up into the cab floor.
I already knew the drivers forward mount was bad, I just cut out the bad bits and waterproofed the heck out of what was left. Theres no one selling cab mount repair parts. You could cut off the floor above that pocket and re-do the damaged bits with decent steel panel. cut and shape some pieces of sheet, drill holes and get some plugweld pliers and weld a series of plugs like you did with the floor panels.
The problem with the cab mounts and rockers isnt so much the water or salt.. its the sand that accumulates in there and traps water. I blew them out with compressed air but it was already rotted. theres body plugs with access to that area under the carpet.
Theres body plugs behind the rockers you can use for access. and the holes in the front of the cab mounts.
Rust will also show up on top of the brace for the 'hump' in the back of the cab. I cut it all out and fabricated missing metal.
Get an undercoating kit like this one:
http://www.eastwood.com/undercoating...es-bottle.html
some 2K seam sealer for the panel seams, with waterproofing treatment applied over it all.
Check out fluid film. the stuff is awesome, better than paraffin for inside rockers and cab corners. For the steering linkage, axles and frame I used black paraffin anti-rust.
Hope this helps
