buying a used CTD

I have been looking for quite some time for a 2002 CTD, 4x4 Auto
almost everything I have seen has between 75k & 100k miles.
Prices are still up there. Question is.....Do I need to be concerned with higher miles on an "02" model ???
I know it sounds like a wide open question, depending on previous maintenance, etc.
It just seems odd to pay big dollars for a truck with higher mileage.
Any help is appreciated!!

I just picked up a 95 with 200,000 on it......I did what jlipskoc said, the guy put some cash into the truck and was good about doing the regalur stuff to it LOF's Fuel ect..... It runs like a champ. I am going to get a new air intake and see if thats adds a few ponys to her but besides that they are good trucks!!! The motor will out last the truck!! Hope you get what you want;)

I'm seeing several people here that have 01 or 02 with 200,000 or 300,000 or 400,000 miles and still going strong with it!

I've never heard of anybody blown up a engine yet...

There was a writeup in the new Peterson's 4wd and off road magazine, which was a used 2001 that cost them a gross amount of 25K. The truck itself was 20K with 40,000 miles on it. They then put 5K (in bolt on BOMBS) into it to make a reliable 511HP and 1200 lb/ft of torque. My point is there are definitely trucks out there with less miles on them for the same money you are looking at. Look into www.traderonline.com and begin close to your location. You should be able to find something fairly close for around the 20K area. This will be a truck in stock form but that sounds like what you need anyway. The dealers are going to rape you, and with end of year incentives I would encourage you to look into a new one. Keep in mind the emmissions crap, and the lousy mielage you will see with a new 600. This was and is enough to keep me in my 2002. Good luck with your search!! LE

I've been looking at 99-02 CTD's, and they are around 15-18k in my area depending on mileage.. IMHO, thats a bit better than what the Ford PSD's are goign for, of the same year.

a freind of mine just bought a 1999 for 15 with just under 100K perfect truck. runs like a champ. as for the ford they are what the name implies"Found On Road Dead. IMO.

I'll check for the "53" block first, and if its not the 53, then I know I can get the truck for 16,500 out the door.. which isnt bad for that truck.. 4x4 CTD dually long bed ex cab. :D
