Brake Trouble...
Brake Trouble...
Hi,
To start off, I have a 1997 dodge 2500 4x4 with 170K. I purchased this truck about 2 weeks ago and after driving it, I have noticed that there is a significant pull to the left when I press the brakes at 30mph+ (the higher the speed, the worse it gets). I had to make an emergency stop the other day, so I figured it was time to replace the brake hoses...so thats where I started today.
I started on the drivers side, and when I went to open the bleeder valve no fluid came out. So I decided to go ahead and replace the hose thinking maybe fluid would come out when I got the new hose on. After I got the new hose on, I went bleed the fluid and still no fluid (I was using a hand held pump type self bleeder). After this I pumped the brakes several times, opened the valve and no fluid. I also depressed the brake pedal with a piece of wood wedged and the brakes would not engage. I got the rotor to turn with no friction from the pads with pedal fully depressed.
So I got the tire back on and backed it out of my garage and when I went to stop the pedal went to the floor, the ABS/Brake light came on, and it felt like only the rear brakes were working.
I have done many brake jobs and I have never encountered this. Do I need new calipers? Am I missing something? Did I do something wrong?
Thanks in advance...
