Brake Light "Constantly" On

Good evening everyone.

I had just reinstalled the dash after replacing the evaporator and the heater core and now find that the brake light stays constantly on even with the key out of the ignition. The only way that I can turn off the lights is by pulling the 20amp fuse or by removing the toggled brake lamp switch under the dash.

Does anyone have any suggestions to this problem? And what is that toggle for on this switch?

Once I get the brake problem solved, then I can start on the job of replacing the lift pump, VP44 and 5 high pressure fuel lines. Should be lots of fun.

Best regards

This may not be your problem, but check you 7 way trailer plug. Mine shorted out between the 12V and the brake light feed.

Brake Light "Constantly" On - Epilogue

A few hours ago I was leafing through my copy of the Dodge 2500 manual and found out where the switch actually goes - back of the brake pedal.

What had happened is that when I removed the dash - following various instructions - to replace the heater core and evaporator, I neglected to disconnect the switch hence it came off with the dash.

To anyone removing the dash to gain access to the evaporator / heater core beware of this switch.

I think once I get all my projects have been completed and the truck ready to haul the trailer, I will post my experiences so that somebody else does not do the same thing.
