Brake ABS sensor problem?

Howdy,

The ABS and parking brake light come on intermittently, stays on for a couple of seconds and then goes out. The braking is normal. The lights come on when the driving and the service brake or park brake are not engaged. 4 wheel ABS truck.

Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Thanks.

As I have found out from experience, check the connections at the speed sensors. Withe a bad connection you will experience this type of thing. I actually had a speed sensor go bad on me once. If there is a problem with the sensor it will not affect braking in any way, just the trouble light.

Do a search for ABS. There have been numerous posts about this. Like Mishkaya said it is (usually) the ABS speed sensor on the rearend being dirty/wet/corroded inside the rearend or outside. Mine does the same exact thing every now and then. I've unplugged it, removed the sensor from the housing, cleaned it and the lights stay out for some time.

Check the ABS sensor on the rear differential as they do fail more so than than the front ones.

It is located right on the top of the rear diff.
