Battery tie town corrosion

Battery tie town corrosion
How do i stop corrosion on the tie downs? do i have to throw these away and start new? anything i can spray on them to stop-neautralize corrosion already there???

yes you can stop it, i bought some stuff at o'reilly's couple months ago. sprayed on and let sit then brushed around and rinsed, did it twice and then sprayed sealer on. so far their is nothing on entire battery or hold downs. i believe it was made by crc, it came in like a six oz. aerosal can that was yellow, i would be 100% sure but its at work and i'm not.

You can do what he said or you can take it off, sandblast and powdercoat it. Even just some good paint will help. I did same thing on my car, where factory paint flaked off, exposing raw metal. It started to corrode and I've blasted and painted it. Been over a year and so far so good.

Or you can use gel or mat cell batteries and never have to deal with corrosion or maintenance again.
The higher price pays in the long run.
Personally I'm surprised that regular old lead/acid batteries are even being sold anymore.

Just a plain ole guy
I keep everything coated with dielectric grease to prevent it. When i was a kid, our car was having corrosion issue real bad so my dad glued a penny beside each battery post. The pennies would corrode away and he'd put on another. Everything else stayed looking like showroom new.

I went through 2 sets of tie down bolts and 2 sets of batteries.. at 12$ bolts from dodge is stupi# so I switch to gel batteries.. took out the battery holders cleaned and had to sand and repaint inner fenders due to leaking acid. buttoned all up. and just applied di-electric grease on the terminals.. happy for 2 years now...

Baking soda and water to neutralize the acid (when it stops foaming it's neutralized- keep going until then) then wash well, and prime/paint like any other rusty metal.
I use the battery washers on the terminals for gassing- and if you are careful and handle the terminals properly(no twisting, hammering, etc) they will not leak.
I tried an acid mat under the battery but thought it was creating a problem for the batt temp/overcharge sensor under the pass battery so I left them out and just cut pieces to fill the grooves in the battery tray which helps keep corrosion down on the inner fenders, but the matt has no effect on the hold down hardware.
