Anyone have any info on this? (Fuel tank)

I was looking on the top of my fuel tank where the lines attach. There's a couple of lines, and an electrical plug on top. What I'm wonderin is, there's a barbed fitting on top that's capped with a rubber cap. Does anyone know what that fitting is used for?

Also, the reason I'm asking is I was thinking about hooking my auxiliary tank up to that fitting if it flows straight down to the tank. If that is a straight access to the tank, it would make plumbing in the auxiliary tank much easier than tapping into the filler neck. Any help would be appreciated here. Thanks.

Do you have a gravity feed system? or a pump to fill the main tank?
I've got a 12V pump I was looking at adding in as well.

Mine is just a gravity feed. I usually use the tank for fueling equipment with a pump and hose so the small line to the tank is just an extra convenience (switch in the cab).

Yeah, I've got a transfer pump on mine now, just wanted to set it up as a straight auxiliary as I don't fuel anything out of it.

The line is pretty small so plan ahead when you use it. If I'm pulling it won't keep up with the fuel the truck uses but it's nice to have on a long trip.

Well, I don't really go on any long trips, but I live 40 miles from the closest town. I work for a neighbor and do quite a bit of driving in between trips to town, just hate having to go to town just to get fuel as the tank out here is dyed diesel.

Sometimes I'll leave the key on when I'm working or loading and it'll fill while I'm stopped. I have it wired to an ignition on relay so it always shuts the valve when the key is off. If you forget about it the tank will overfill, just watch for drips.

Yeah, that does help. #1, the auxiliary capped fitting was what I was referring to. Now I'm just waiting til I get my tank emptied out to get it plumbed in.

according to my manual that is the rollover valve location, so it would be a vent. i see no problem using it for a fill point from an extra tank

Ok, finally got this all hooked up, only problem is it overflows out the top of the tank. I put in an electric shutoff in addition to the the ball valve so I can switch it on in the cab and it'll shut off when I turn the key off. I have a terrible memory so I tend to forget to shut off the ball valve.

I used the capped auxiliary port to siphen the fuel from the tank when I had to drop the tank to put in the new retro fuel pump.

Aux

whats is the diff from the 3rd Gen to the 2nd Gen tank? I could gravity on my 3rd Gen with out worry of fuel spilling out, no shut off valves. Were does the fuel come out of? so I can plug that off and vent the Aux tank only.

What size of hose goes on that fitting guys? I have my Espar tapped into that port and I need to replace the fittings the shop used with some real hose.
