97 Power Mirror Not Working

Hello, went to adjust passenger side power mirror on the way to work today.

No movement at all. Drivers side works just fine. I can move the glass mirror by hand and I can hear the motor move when I push on it, so I know the motor is not locked up.

Any ideas before I start taking off door panels? Where do I start? At the switch on the driver' side? Any idea on what wires I need to check to see if the passenger side is even etting juice from the switch?

I assume they have a fuse, but only one mirror is out. A visual check of the wires that snake through the rubber loom on the door looks fine. Thanks, Kevin

Check the switch on the driver's side that switches from one side to the other first.
I've seen a couple fail.

Bill, thanks. Thats kind of what I was thinking. Take it apart and look around, spray some contact cleaner. Who knows what I'll find.

Does the door panel have to be removed or can the switch be pulled out without taking the whole panel off?

Thanks again for the reply, Kevin

Just went outside and messed around with the switch. No luck. The switch can be removed after pulling off the ****, then removing a threaded trim ring, the switch can be accessed without removing the door panel by removing the phillips head screw, and pulling the tringle portion of the door panel away from the door.

The switch is a sealed unit, so no repair (filled with a resin), and the contact cleaner did not help. I'll probe the wires for power just to be sure before I get a new switch, but I'm sure it's time for a new switch. Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, I'm not sure if you can get at it without taking the panel off but you could sure give it a try. Just remove the one screw near the switch and see if you can peel back the panel from the top enough to get in. I think you'll be able to pull it back far enough for contact cleaner at least.

Wow, posted at the same time! . Bill, you were right on the money!

Does any body know if the switch is a dealer part or can be located from somebody like NAPA? Thanks, Kevin

Could give NAPA a try.
For OEM parts I've found these guys to be the cheapest. If you need it fast and a local dealer doesn't have it these guys can usually get it to you just as fast.

In fact here you go, $37.40

Got lucky, took a probe and started checking for power. Switch was sending the juice out, so off to the passenger side. Pulled the upper portion of the door panel and found the connector for the mirror came unhooked (one of the tabs was broken).

A zip tie to keep it from coming apart and life is good. Thanks again, Kevin
