97 No Wipers and wondering?
Hi People,
I just bought my first Dodge Diesel and it has some issues but right now the wipers are dead. I checked the fuse and it was blown but replaced it and still nothing so I took out the whole wiper unit and cleaned the plugin connector and retried still nothing so I removed the entire wiper assembly and put 12 volts to the 2 wires to the motor and it rotates so the problem is either the column switch or a short/open to the plugin. I then tested voltage at the 4 plugin and it is around 2.0 Volts on each or the 4 connectors on the plugin.
Has anyone had to replace a wiper switch on the column here or try to trace it? I am sure this is going to be a Beach to fix right. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There was a great thread on here re: this issue and good advice on diagnosing it before replacing the multi-function switch i.e turn signal lever.
A search on "wiper motor" may locate it.

Where do you live? I have a brand new, in the box multifunction switch. They aren't that hard to remove, but you do need a tamperproof star screw driver, OR, do as I did and drill the nubs off enough to get a regular driver to work, then replace the screws with new non tamperproof ones.

Hi GAmes,
I am in Vancouver BC Canada. pretty far from Texas. I have to pull the cover off the column and see if a wire is loose or something obvious b4 replacing things. I searched the dbase and read all the wiper related links specific to 2 gen's and got some info/tips that I will try as well. Need to know where the control relat is under the hood and the control relay under the dash could also be the problem. It seems to be fairly common issue with these trucks.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the assistance. I took the column off and cleaned the main harness with electrical contact cleaner and and I have wipers again.
I know need to figure out why the ABS light is on. It comes on at start up then goes off then about 20 secs later back on. I am going to clean the rear diff sensor today and cross my fingers.
Nice to have a site with ppl that are willing to help/share ideas.
