96' ext cab 4x4 auto 2500 worth $6k?

I found a white one for $6k thats loaded with leather. It looks in decient condition but has over 400K miles on it. The guy says it runs fine still but you have to hold the throttle down 1/4 to start it. Could this be a bad heater grid? If I war to get it and the engine was on its last leg could I just swap in my 89' block?

Thanks for the help guys.

Giving a little throttle to a P-pump is nothing out of the ordinary. The 'problem' may be something a simple as adjusting the idle. Give it a good going over and pay close attention to the blow-by. If it seems excessive, then I personally would walk. Also ask about the KDP and when the tranny was last looked at. If it looks like it have been cared for properly then the price seems OK. If it was rode hard and put away wet, well, you know. Are there any guages in it? Has it been bombed at all? Look at the top of the AFC plate and see if there are "witness" marks from the bolts being turned. If so somebody was in the pump.

Its totaly stock, no gauges or anything. Not even a muffler. Auto was "gone over" 33K miles ago. Dont know what that means.

Since when does 400+K miles scar people away from a cummins?

Talking

In Maine I'd think that there would be serious corrosion issues, i.e. brake backing plates, exhaust etc. I don't think I'd worry 'bout the modur as much as I would the rest of the drivetrain, front axle joints, brakes, rear gear slop, corroded coolers. I dun'no, I'm a bit of a newbie myself even though I make my livin' off of 'em. See my classified ad.

It is not the cummins that worry most, it's the rest of the truck that will breakdown. Cummins build to last, dodge doesn't.
