That should do it. Of course, your steering will still suck, but what's $1000 among friends?....

there are tons of diff upgrades to be made. IMO the DSS trac bar conversion or like brand. steering shaft stabilizer. I switched my inverted Y steering to more of the T style found in 98-99 models. there is a differcance. check your steering shaft see how that is not all are bad. mine has over 170k and havent replaced it. there are many good and bads posted on here about steering box replacement. alot. just do searching by doing some of these upgrades your steering left to right free play will track down to less and less as you do these upgrades. hope this helps

my truck already has everything except a steering box. ive had 9 of these trucks and they all drive like crap. my 03 is wore out and still drives way better, it just feels like the tires are out of balance. why didnt they put the old motor in the 03 trucks? just one year!
if anyone has a fix for this let me know.

I have all of that and it still drives like crap compared to other vehicles ie 93 Ferd 3/4 4x4, Cheby 3/4 Suburban..... Did I mention, don't waste your $$ on an AGR steering box? Well, now I did. Don't.

Will a 2wd box work on a 4wd? I noticed they have a quicker ratio. 3 1/16 lock to lock, instead of 4 3/16 lock to lock. Just wondering if anyone has tried it?

hmm

someone needs to try this!

what's with the price of steering stabilizer? Its $169.95 from link posted above but from other places its $209? Just a markup difference?

CORed 11-13-2009 03:57 PM

Personally... I think the steering difference boils down to this.

2nd gens - reciprocating ball (junk)
3rd gens - rack-n-pinion

Converting a 2nd gen to have rack-n-pinion will help the most. As it sounds like from the above, guys have spent lots of money on replacing / upgrading every steering related part and still don't have the tight steering we hope for (me included). I have heard of some guys converting to rack-n-pinion. But I don't think it's cheap. I've heard estimates in the $2000 range.

The steering stabilizers are basically the same. I bought the PSC one and am very happy with it.

thanks, that's all I needed to clarify. Just markup in price...

My 2wd 97 steers nice. I drove a 4x4 '01 for work and it felt fine, but seemed to have a different ratio...I just thought it was due to it being a 4x4
