2500 Diesel Ram Sport? Is it a real model?

Looking at a 2500 Ram with the 5.9L Cummins.... Supposedly it is a "Sport" did the Sport ever cover the diesel trucks? If so what did the Sport model have that others didnt? My friend just bought an 09 1500 Sport and it has am AWESOME interior... Leather with "Sport" in the seats and red accents.

Just curious... Will probably be putting money down on it tomorrow... So i will be a Cummins Ram owner soon lol! My first diesel!

First year for the diesel Sport was 98. Basically its a body colored grill and bumpers. Some other minor differences depending on year/generation, but for the most part thats what it is...

Mine used to be a "sport" model before a deer ran into it. It now has a full replacement bumper but the grille is still white. Also, I took the "sport" decals off the side because I thought they made a diesel truck look a little candy butt.

My 1997 2500 Cummins is a sport. As far as I know the only difference in the older sports is color matched bumpers and grill. I know later on they went to the dual bulb headlights and the front bumper was completely different (one piece) where as the older ones were more or less the factory 3 piece ones painted to match the truck.

The 98s (there werent any 97 Sports) had the regular headlights, color keyed grill same shape as the chrome grill, and color key front bumper with black plastic on top and colr keyed rear bumper. I believe they still had the black taillights surrounds. Usually had the Sport decal on the side of the bed towards the rear. Had regular door badges.

In 99, Sports got their own grill and front bumper. The grill is curved at the bottom and the front bumper is a one piece with a curve in the top to match the curve on the bottom of the grill. Color keyed taillight surrounds. Also got the quad headlights (HID?) Usually had the Sport decal on the sides of the hood, but Ive seen some with them on the bedsides still...Had door decals instead of the usual badge.

Starting in 01 they started to go away from the decals and went to regular badges on the Sports (for the Ram 2500/3500 Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel badge on the doors) and affixed a SPORT badge on the C-pillar instead of Sport decals.

Running boards were just dealer add ons. They had nothin to do with the Sport package...

98-05 had regular interiors. 07s had carbon fiber trim around the radio and on the doors, instead of woodgrain or silver...not sure if 06 was the same or not. Never looked inside one.

03-09 were just color keyed grill and front/rear bumpers (other than the afformentioned 07 carbon fiber trim). I believe the 07 may have Sport embroidered into headrests. Been awhile since I looked inside one. 06 may be the same. Not sure about 08/09 as far as special radio surround/doorpanels or Sport embroidery

Thats cool, I need to find something that looks sharp. Summit Racing has A BUNCH on their site but no installed pictures. Thankfully their headquarters store is only a short drive from me!

Any chance that same carbon fiber would fit the 99? I dont MIND the wood grain with the tan interior BUT carbon fiber is BAD AZZ!

My buddies 99 Ram Sport is SICK inside. I cant say it has any special dash surrounds or door panels (ill get some pics of it to post) BUT it does have sweet leather interior with SPORT in the seats. He was told at the dealer that the Diesel was NOT offered in that SPORT interior. Otherwise he would have gotten it. Not sure if that IS true but i know he would be ****** if he found out he could have gotten that interior on a diesel. Hes got the HEMI with its 11-13 MPG on a 1500 Ram and it disgusts him.

My 98 has the color keyed taillight surrounds. Reason I know is that someone ripped one off while it was parked on the street. Got lucky and found a brand new one still in the package at a salvage place in town.
