2001.5 hi/lo beam

We all know the lights aint the greatest in the world on these trucks so i am running 9007 instead of 9004 in my stock headlights. It did make a big difference BUT i wanted to have both hi and lo on at the same time when on hi beam, now i could have used the "Brite-Box" or some relays but i seen where a guy just connected 2 wires together under the steering column, which i did , and walla! both are on. Now i do have a question of you electrical engineers!!!,As you know without this mod when one pulled on the dimmer switch both filiments came on as long as you held the lever and the brightness certainly was apparent, now with the wires conected and when on hi beam the lo is on also and what a world of difference, but you know when i pull the lever now the lights still come on brighter even tho both filiments are already on. Its as if the lo aint on but it is,the lo stays on regardles of wheather the hi is on or not.I have checked and checked and cant find why this is happening. Any ideas guys and gals.

Maybe when you pull on the switch there is an extra surge of electricity going to the lights. Just a thought.

It might be like a power surge. Like your home appliances. When you first turn them on they have a huge draw of energy to get them started, but after that it takes very little energy to keep them running. Maybe this is the same concept.
