2001.5 Dash cracked

I have a 2001.5 Dodge and when I got in my truck today the dash had cracked in two places. Is this an problem and is there a way to get a AGATE (Color) replacement. I have never seen this happen before. I have owned alot of cars and truck and this is the first. Any assistance on how to get it replaced would be great. Not looking to cover the problem up with carpet if you know what I mean.

Sorry to say, but its a pretty common problem on the 2nd gen's. Do a search on "cracked dash" and you'll find a few options.....everything from total replacement to Dashmats (which is what I did).

jc whitney has real nice covers, its a plastic piece that looks jsut like factory but only goes over the top half of the dash. if you buy from factory i think you have to get everything that is palstic that sits in front of you lol. check that out tho, i was gonan get one for my 2nd gen but sold it before i got the chance

Hi I am new to the forum, i just covered mine with one of the dash pad cover. it looks really good , almost original, you only notice if you have done one. it cost $125 dollars. i got mine locally at Joe,s in houston but i did see them on ebay, it should come with a silicon clue , important do not over clue it , just space on ends and corners , edges, if you glue alot in the middle it will end up changing shape when the temparture changes

I have always been told that the amorall was the leading cause of the dashes cracking weather thats true or not i put a cover on my dash to prevent any cracks from starting and i never use amorall any place were the sun will beat down on it and i have 0 cracks and i never dust in there either there is like 2inchs of dust but oh well its a truck not a grocery getter

Does anyone have a picture of the problems, I was just wondering where to look or keep an eye on. I can't believe it, everytime I come on this site I see another problem with these trucks. For years I wanted one of these trucks because they were the truck to have. This was the strongest truck, a real work horse, the Cummins was the best and since I got my 2001.5 it makes me feel like I was a complete idoit for getting one. Not that I have had too much trouble but if I have half that you see on here I will have to refinance the house to keep it on the road. My brother had an old Ford 250 years ago (1973) I think. That truck did more work and was loaded and I say loaded all the time. It didn't move unless it had 4000-5000 lbs on its back. Towed everything from other vehicles to towing down an old building one day just like on T.V.. The funny thing was it never caused any trouble, never thought of changing the Trans oil or the axle fluid or the coolant , nothing but pound it. Only after 10 or so years it got rusty to a point of spending a bunch of money or sell it. It went to another home..
I guess all I'm saying is I am half worried to even go too far from home because the L.P. might quit or the Trans might quit, or the VP-44 might die, or the ball joints or other front end parts fail, or a death wobble, or whatever. I won't even let my wife drive it because it is all over the road, but wait if I buy a DSS it will steer again, too bad Dodge wouldn't have figured that one out and not the people who drive them. I can't imagine people lining up spending $ 40,000- $50,000 or more to get this kind of trouble. Sorry for the rant, I am just getting a bit crazy worrying about my dream machine.I remember when I was in school hating Dodge's. Well I don't hate them now but can't believe that a company that is building this garbage and us the buying public letting them get away with it. There should be a fight in the court system for some of the known trouble and Dodge should be good enough to come to the plate and admit to the faults and make it right for the consumer. I know I will never own a Chrysler product again, maybe something cheaper and if it starts to fail just dig a hole and roll it in and start again.. Sorry if I have stepped on anyones toes, I really love my truck its just the worry about what will break, I can't enjoy it now.

Old300 it's just the watering hole effect, people come here to find solutions to problems so no surprise you read about problems! While the dodge has some engineering issues they are all well known and are generally avoidable thanks to websites like this. Put another way if you owned a Ford and never found a forum where people go to with issues you may be fooled into thinking the Ford is of better quality....

Dodge does sell just the top part of the dash that is cracked. It is not that much to replace when compared to the $1200 upper and lower dash kit. I saw a part number on the forum somewhere. Mine is cracked too.

Good luck,
Bob
