1998 3500 12v 2wd Single Cab DRW Rides like a TANK

I bought this truck to tow my 10-13000lbs toy hauler with a Gooseneck conversion, ride was Really really rough even with toy hauler on the back, it will jump off the ground even on small bumps at 20mph..... Installed new shocks front and back, Moog coil springs in the front and firestone air bags on the back of the truck and MAN you can feel still feel EVERY bump even worse, is there a way to take the blocks from the rear for a smoother ride?or some type of rear spring set up? I have no clue how Dodge would of ever sold this rear set up to someone, my thoughts are the leafs I have are build up by PO who liked to pull but said he didnt, I looked at a few pictures of used 3500 DRW leak springs on flebay and the looked almost the same.....any input would be great.

Its a 3500. It was made to haul weight.

My 2500 rides like that when empty. You can throw weight in the back to dampen the springs but I don't know of any company offering soft springs for 1-ton trucks that are truly a more spongy ride.

Sounds like a nice toy hauler, though!

Yea I just sold a 2006 2500 CTD it was a 4x4 auto, seemed to not pull as hard but never really towed......would a 4x4 club cab dually this year be better? or maybe even a 2003 and up model? I don't think I can take the rough house of this truck. I use it for my off time and don't want to be thrashed around.....literally you can hit the ceiling of the truck if you hit the wrong bump at the wrong speed, IE...no way of trying to have a glass of anything in the truck if you are not loaded down...I don't think a 1000 pounds in the bed would help much...

Its a drw they ride like that plain and simple. You have 2 more tires catching bumps. These dont ride smooth without about 2k in the bed and then if your used to a 2500 not even smooth then. They are built to tow not ride like a car. A single cab is the worse due to the short wheelbase. Its all motor and springs.

It is going to ride rough, but when you say "it will jump off the ground even on small bumps at 20mph" that sounds abnormal. And I'm pretty sure 2500 and 3500 trucks have the same spring package front and rear. (depending on engine configuration) Also, rear air bags probably aren't helping. If your tire pressure is a 80 psi empty that is going to cause a rougher ride as well.

This ^. Leave 5psi in the bags, and air the tires down to approx 45psi.

I used to complain to my friend how stiff my CTD rode when on wash boarded roads out hunting until one time he asked if he could show me how to make it ride like a car- I said sure, he jumped in the drivers seat and mashed it to the floor and hit the same rough section I always yelled about at 40mph vs my 20mph, the difference was outstanding! Just a slight vibration compared to the dash rattling visor dropping washboards. He said all one needs to do is keep your speed above 35 (if safe to do so) and your good to go!

If you have bags, try removing the overload springs. If that doesn't do enough pull a leaf at a time out until it's smooth with just a few lbs in the bags empty, then when it's time to load up fill the bags. If you do go that route make sure you can at least get new u bolts that wrap over the spring in case you have to cut one or you find them rotted out. They aren't supposed to be reused anyhow but I have seen it done when they are in good shape. Good luck.
