16x8 or 16x10 wheels for 315/75/16s
I am hoping to upgrade to some 315/75/16s soon and was wondering which wheel width is best. Also, what backspacing would you recommend?
I am running the D25 coils and plan to swap out all my control arms with DT 1/2" extended arms to improve clearance. |
I'm running mine on the stock 8" rims with the 1/2" longer trailing arms. When I was looking at tires, it seemed as though 8" rims were the minimum width allowed by most manufacturers (80% of the tire width).

i would go with the 16x10's
dont know why and cant expalin it but as the commercial says..."wider is better" |
I went with 16X10 and 4.625 inch backspacing. (Weld)
That's what most aftermarket wheels are. Stock is upwards of 6.5 inch backspacing. On a 8 inch rim that is way too much. My wheels stick out about 3 inches more than stock. I think a 16X10 with 5-5.5 inch backspacing would be perfect. Too much backspacing (stock rims) and the 35 inch tires rub on the control arms. Not enough backspacing (mine) and the tires rub on the rear inside of the fender. I started out with only a 2inch spacer, but rubbed the inside of the fender. That's why I went with the 5inch (4.5) Skyjacker, to stop my rubbing problem. I still get a slight rub when doing a hard-right compressed turn (like into a steep driveway, or offroad) phox |
Dont quote me on this but, Ive heard that a 0.25" wheel spacer works very well with the stock rims...

I kind of thought a 5" to 5.5" backspacing seemed perfect too, but can't find any 16x10 wheels that have it.
I'm looking at a set of 16x10s with 4.5", seems to be the norm for aftermarket. I would love to have another set of Welds. I had 16.5x9.75 Weld Scorpios on my half ton, but I just can't put another $1200 into a set of wheels right now. When you had the spacers, did you only rub on the rear of the fender? That's what I've been hearing from most guys. DT felt very confident that the 1/2" extended track bars would allow 35s to clear. Guess I'll find out. |

I think the DT control arms should fix any possible rub. Every truck is different, only way to know for sure is to try. I need to find some slightly longer control arms than I have so I can fit 37's under there next time tire buying comes around :D phox |
