#1 and #2 fuel differences???
 

What is the difference between #1 and #2 diesel at pumps besides price???

someone please correct me if i'm wrong...but #1 fuel is for the colder climates...it has some anti-gell stuff in it...some stations sell the #2 in the spring, summer and into the fall. then switch over to the #1 in the winter and into the start of spring.

Diesel #1 is slightly 'lighter' (less dense) than diesel #2. It's primary benefit is that is has a cloud point of about -40°F, so it is better for cold climates. Cost more and gives slightly less MPG. Use just enough to prevent gelling.


It's commonly called Kerosene.

No real reason to use #1 unless you're in an arctic climate. #1 has less btus which result in lower mpgs and power.
Straight #2 with antigel additive will offer close to the same amount of protection. Most stations in the lower 48 don't even offer a a 1/2 blend since additive is so much cheaper and easier.
