$150.00 tank of Diesel

Thats right, 150.00 Bucks for a tank of Diesel :'( I was trying to save .10 cents a gallon by getting home to a local station where they have Diesel for 1.28/ gallon. I was 6 miles from home and my M.T.E. read out was saying I still had 56 miles to go. The actual fuel guage read just a hair below 1/8th of a tank. My low fule light came on 30 miles earlier but I thought I was ok, well guess again, I ran out of fuel, [eyecrazy] (the last time I did that i was 17/years old) ???.
Not figured in the 150.00 bucks was the time my wife missed work helping me run around to try and get it started, (trust me that one will cost me much more then a $150.00 ;D). I was able to get 5 gallons into it but I could only get 1 injecter open to help bleed off the air (cheap wrench), but it wasn't good enough. So after 2 1/2 hours of screwing around, trying different things I gave up and called for a tow truck $75.00... then to the dealer [yuk] $ 75.00.
Was there anything else I could have tried, is there a bleed off valve some where located on the fuel sytem? Anyway, Santa is getting me a Good set of wrenches to keep in the truck and since I'm on the road most of the time, I think I will carry that 5 gallon fule tank (I had to buy) around with me..

MerryChristmas everybody...... KEEP UM FULL ... Tommy

Re:$150.00 tank of Diesel

Let your lift pump cycle a lot, open your water drain until fuel comes out, then open the banjo at the injector. I have ran my 95 out once it was a b***. Ran my 01 out it was easy and then i ran my 98 out when i cleaned the fuel canister really good never had to crack an injector yet. was told if you do you need to crack the 3 and 4 then let lift pump push the fuel to them. If you had tat much trouble might want to check your lift pump out

Proper procedure for starting a fuel starved 5.9. Remove bleed screw at top of fuel filter housing where line from lift pump is. Pump manual lever on lift pump until fuel spurts out of bleed screw steady. At this point you have filled the fuel filter and bled all air from tank to fuel filter. Now loosen at least 2 (preferably all) of the injection lines at each injector on the head. Crank engine untill you see fuel spurt (watch for splash in eyes caution). Tighten injection lines and crank again. May possibly have to do the last step over, but usually it will take off. Avoid stepping on accelerator during this procedure until it is running. To me it seems to agravate getting air into the injectors if you push accelerator to the floor during the starting attempt. I have started many a 5.9 out of fuel with this procedure (works every time). Diesel mech for 30 years.
