Why 3500 rpm

Can anyone tell me why I was Able to get 3500 rpm in 2nd. I'm not sure I ever tried before but the best I've gotten in higher gears is just over 3000 and I've tried lots of times. Stock gov. Springs. Truck now has just over 250,000. Thank you.
