I also use the hose clamp, but have rotated it so that it is very difficult to unscrew it. Any thief will have to either cut the clamp off or take time to unscrew it.

Tailgates are not cheap. People steal them because they can get a nice little amount of change for them.

I got a gate keeper on mine as well. I kind of wish they had a bolt that took a "special" tool to remove it like the lightkeeper things they have. All you need is a allen head to pull it, but it still takes them time, and if they are planning on just pulling it off i a parking lot, chancers are they dont have tools on them for the job.

I wouldn't mind getting oe of those poplock things but I think when they sprayed my liner in they covered my screws.

 

I wish someone would steal mine, LOL It is going to start rusting right away, i just know it LOL. I use a electric lock with my alarm. Seems to work good !

 

I'm thinking there were a couple in the classifieds here.

 

Love it! Just enough deterant to have the thief maybe move on to a different vehicle.
GateKeeper is nice but at over $25.00 I think I'll try the hose clamp!
Maybe file away groove so it takes a socket to remove it, instead of a Screwdriver.

That's the general idea, deterrent.
No need to file away groove to make them use a socket, just put the clamp on with the head facing the truck bed when the tailgate is open. They'll either need a socket or a 90* screwdriver.

 

You guys have got me to thinking on this. It would be cool to get it on there where you had to use one of those Craftsman stud and nut removers to get it off. No flats on the nut nor groves for the screwdriver.

 

Thats what I wihed the gatekeeper had on it. Something that you need a "special" tool to remove it with. I can't remember if it was a allen hea or a torx, but either way it's nothing special. But again like I said the chances are your gate is going to get jacked at the mall or somewhere that there is alot of cars, so they more than likely don't have the tools they need on them.

 

That could be dangerous!

Like I said, it is just a deterrent for mine so that hopefully they will move on to an easier target. The Roll-N-Lock on mine locks the tailgate when it is locked. I switch back and forth from the stock gate to the 5er gate when towing so I need to be able to switch when needed. The clamp works on both.

 

That's the way my clamp faces. The other way to get the clamp off is with the tailgate closed and a long screwdriver, the thief can lay on the ground, reach up and unscrew it. (That's how I installed the clamp on my truck).

 

I have one of the brackets from genos that makes it hard to get off, not necessarily theft proof....

The big dent in it, makes it a lot less desirable though :-)
