Took my seat bottom cushions out to fix. Got some foam and "super decking" at an upholstery shop. Super decking is a material upholsterers use on top of furniture springs to keep them from eating up the foam when it moves. Some have used pieces of carpet for this. It is very tough and smooth. Just used 2" foam on mine. Super decking over springs and wires then foam and put existing foam back on then install cover. Works well and stops the springs from eating up the stock foam. I bought 20 x 20 pieces of foam and trimmed to fit.

WOW.... Like riding on a cloud now!!! More like my 02 seats now soft and cushy. Took longer to clean my dirty hand prints of the seats then to do the MOD (about 10 min. a seat). Heading to North Carolina on Sat. can't wait to go now!!!!

I did this mod with some 2" foam and some cheap floor mats from Walmart. Just cut the floor mat to fit over springs, add foam and you've got better seats!

I know this is an old thread, but I book marked it because I hated my seat so much.

I did have 4" of additional foam, but after remembering someone using carpet, I chose to go that route. I removed 2" of foam and put a section of carpet I fit to size with some carpet foam padding I got from a local carpet store. Beneath my cloth seat cover, I have 2" of foam, a section of carpet and two sections of foam padding.

Much better. The longest ride I've had in the truck was for 30 minutes since I did the change, but no leg pain.

My goal was to raise my tush, taking pressure off the back of my lower quads, just above my knees, where it was bothering me. This just might have worked.

Thanks again DTR!! Just did this mod for a cheap and easy fix. It litteraly saved my ***. After over 100,000 miles my seat foam finally gave out enough that the seat frame was hurting my legs and butt on long trips, not anymore.

Dangit, I really need to do this mod and I just threw away some carpet last week.

Guess I'll use cheap floor mats.

I did. If you use the existing seats it is a royal pain to do as all the supports for seats need to be cut off, leaving just the basic frame. Then to attach the seats to the air-ride part is another story. In spite of the pain, I like the mod and so does my with. You do tend to ride a bit higher. It is a bit pricey too. Once you do the mod you can't go back due to all the metal that was removed.
If I would do this again, I would go for aftermarket seats with the built in air-ride.

I did the seat mod today. Used a foam sleeping pad .5" thick and cheap floor mats from Walmart. Pretty straight forward in removing the seat cushion cover except for the front seat clip. I tried all sorts of methods and ended up busting my thumb. So in a fit of rage I poked a hole in the fabric centered near the plastic tab and used a large common screwdriver to push with, worked like a charm. I double stack the foam for about a 1" cushion. Made a noticeable difference and a worthy mod.

I'll tackle the passenger seat later on.

Update: Drove the truck this afternoon and it made a world of difference. No longer do I feel like my butt is getting pinched and the wallet doesn't feel like a boulder.

Ive done mine a few times, since the foam usually packs down after awhile. It makes me laugh how an average guy can go to Walmart ,buy some stuff and make a Dodge truck better than it leaves the factory!!!
Maybe Dodge can learn a few things from Wally World ?

No pics but it's very straight forward using Stumpjumper's writeup on the first page. The hardest part is removing the clip on the front side of the cushion.

Pic for the bottom of the seat here. http://www.diesel-max.com/3rdgenfrontseatfix/

Just did the seat mod today. Needed to take the seat out to get the front fabric clip off. Had some 1/2" grey inerlocking foam floor stuff, cut to size. Originally had the foam flooring and 1/2" sleeping bag pad but it was too tall for me. Took out the sleeping pad and it is perfect.
