Winter oil viscosity
I just wondered how many of you change to a different oil viscosity in the winter? I have always run Valvoline Blue 15w40 year round. Just wonder if running a lighter weight would be ok in the winter. What you might recommend if you do? Thanks!

I use Rotella 5w40 full synthetic year round. Its specifically designed for diesels, but I use the same stuff in my gasser vehicles

It depends on your winter climate. If the ambient temperature at night gets down under 0* then you'll want to run a lighter weight synthetic. But if it doesnt get that cold then its not worth the money. In saying that, its worth pointing out that the lighter weight synthetic offers no benefit when the engine is running at normal operating temperatures. Everything about lighter viscosity in the winter is for starting only...
