will a dirty filter lower fuel psi ....

i have installed a new bd-power , oem bypass lift pump kit on my 1999 and cant get it to start .. before that i already had a in tank lift pump. but its psi was only 7@idle and 3 to 0 at WOT !!!! so can the stock pump just have a dirty filter ?

If your reading pressure between the filter and IP, I would say a dirty filter would affect the pressure by all means. I have a Walbor 392 and my pressure when to nothing. Checked my filter and it was nearly collapsed. Put a new filter in and pressures back up to 15 psi. I had my pressure relief valve in front of the filter. Have move it behind the filter so as not to collapse it, but when my pressure starts to fall I'll know it's getting time to change the filter.

it comes of the banjo on the vp44 ... its the edge attitude fuel gauge ...

yes a pre and post filter psi drop of 5psi or more shows filter is dirty.

change the filter and crack a few injector lines and crank it til you get diesel fuel at the injector lines then close them and it should crank right up. VP-44 trucks can become air locked in the lines between the VP-44 and injector.

ok, i bled one in 30 seconds, then stopped cranking... do i have to start all over ?

mini14 08-14-2007 10:18 PM

in 8 years ive never had to bleed by cracking lines...just bump the starter 3 times.

i removed my lines from the filter to in front of the tank to add a new carter lp and changed the filter , how much air could i possiblie have , this cracking the lines and watching for fuel is taking forever . crank for 30seconds then stop for 10 min and repeat.. does it take this long?

This advice is against most for the safety of your starter but... the 10 min repeat is too long of a wait. Bump the starter about 3-5 times crank for up to 40 seconds, I wait no more than 1 minute and crank again. Just when you think your cranking too long it fires up. At least for me.

Good luck.

i hear ya i went about 40 seconds the last time and it fired...
