VP-44 Warranty Replacement
I am concerned about the IP. My LP went out last summer while driving as indicated by the FP Gauge I installed which suddenly went to 0-1 psi at idle. I limped 3 miles to DC (on purpose to protect the IP, truck seemed to run fine). After, 2 weeks (LPs on national back-order) I got the in-tank LP and my truck back. The service tech wrote on the paperwork that I may have future problems with the IP. I am concerened now because I have until October until the 5-year end of warranty arrives. I am only at 72k (of 100k on my warranty).
I feel with my luck the IP will die the day my 5 years is up. I also feel that without due diligence of installing the FP gauge I would have driven longer than I did (~ 4 years) and starved the IP even more....especially when the LP went south.
I would really like a warranty replacement before I am out 1,500.00 due to a bad fuel system design and an IP that is prone to failure due to it.
What would you guys do?
1. Pay DC 75.00 for aflow test?
2. Explain situation and show DC the diagnosis from the service tech last year?
I have no performance issues now and no codes. I don't tow hovever and generally speaking drive slow to and from work. No racing either.
I have hear of guys "forcing failure" (i.e starving) on the VP to kill it, but in my book that is dis-honest and not the way I do business.
Any thought?
Thanks!!

My LP went out and I drove it about 500 miles without a problem. Replaced the LP about 10k miles ago and still no problems with the IP. I would not worry about the 3 miles with no LP. But, I have been known to be a little cavalier....
Exactly, you could be getting rid of one of those good VP44s that will go forever and a day, and trade it for a 10k mile pump. Run it till it dies, then replace. Or if you do get it replaced, make sure you hang on to the old one if it isn't dead yet, could be a good spare.
Well the way pumps have been dying lately on late model 2nd gen's, I would say stay tuned. Read this thread!

Snoking, that is a great thread. thanks for sharing it. I had a similar deal with the dead lift pump. I was in warranty though but the dealer said it is not a warranty item anymore! "Anymore" made my panties bunch up and I started calling dc and other dealers. Dc ended up saying I had to pay a $200 deductable. The dealer then charged me sales tax on the deductable. It is a sad sad case. Guys need to be aware of this. good work on thomas's part.

Well im gonna say dont be worried about the VP 44. Mine ran ran completely out of fuel, and ever since then I have had the intank LP. Happy if I see 2-3 PSI at WOT, but thats soon to change. I have over 18000 miles since it was ran out of fuel and the intank was installed. no signs of weakness yet!!!

Thanks for the replies! Like I said I have had no problems but still might consider taking it in before the warranty is out and having it tested.
I could sure buy my kids some nice stuff with the money I would spend on a VP.....
Or wait....maybe some gauges, a Smarty, that Banks intake manifold, a DOR bumper........
