Vacuum Line and Transmission Cooler Lines
 

I was installing gauges today (not done yet with the routing) and this vacuum line fell apart. What does it do/control? The line goes to something up by

Second question my Transmission appears to be leaking fluid from the coolant lines where they run side by side under the torque converter. My guess is they’ve rubbed together and worn a small pin hole leak because I can’t see a source above them that’s dripping on to them. If I replace them, should I go with stock style steel lines or have some fluid compatible hose made up?

Main vacuum line from the vac pump.

Controls where the AC vents put the air (only defrost with no vac), controls CAD on the 4WD trucks that have it, and the cruise control on all automatic second gens and on some manual trans second gens.

Fix with a new bit of rubber hose to connect the hard pipe to the one way valve.
With the rubber rotting like that, be prepared to replace all the rubber pieces of the vac system under the hood.

Do you happen to know the sizes of most of the vacuum lines including this one? I was stupid and didn’t think to look as I had to head into work. I should’ve looked so I could pick some up on the way home.

Sorry, don't know the sizes... but if my addled brain remembers correctly it was 4mm id..but no guarantees on that!

I fixed 2nd gen vac tube breaks on the side of the road with heat shrink tube, the stuff usually used for wiring, then a couple of small zip ties on two inches of a small stick I found on the side of the road so it didn't kink there.
I was hauling a loaded trailer during winter and 4 hrs from home. I needed 4x4 to work.

There are two lines coming from the left side of the transmission. The forward one on the left side that crosses in front of the transmission pan rubbed against the one coming from the right side that also goes in front of the pan then turns forward up by the left side of the radiator. One has a pin hole leak and the other is about to.

What are my best options? Replace with hard lines or make up some rubber replacements?

If it was mine, they'd be hard lines with rubber or plastic separators between the places likely to rub...Then tie lines and separators together at those points with zipties to prevent rubbing...:D...Ben

Thats what I’m thinking too. They had separators in other areas of the lines just not there.

Since you are doing gauges, you can replace one of the lines with one that has a fitting for the temperature probe. That way you see the hottest fluid in the system, plus it'll fix the leak.

A practical, cheap and efficient solution... This casts strong doubts on your claim to ever having been in contact with a government agency or a military organisation... :cool:

That line that has the temp probe in it is the hot line. And IIRC I bought it from Diesel Manor at the same time I bought my gauge package. Pretty easy to swap out too.

I just moved my truck with the lines separated in the photos and boy did it leak. There was enough tension with them rubbing between the two lines it would barely drip before.

Did you use standard compression fitting? What size fittings do you use?

Not sure, the line came with the fittings on it, ready to install. The only ting I had to do was remove the old one, install the new one, and screw in the temperature probe.
