ugly noises!!

Well when I was driving home tonight about half was home the truck made a noise that is hard to explain, but it sounds like if you where to (blop) the accelerator at an idle. Only it happened twice while going down the road. It also felt like someone let off the gas and put it right back down to where it was. Like I said it did it twice, then the rest of the way home it ran great... It is cold, -10. But I doubt it has anything to do with it.... Any ideas what this was??

Well I got a 0341 code tried to find a cam sensor (no crank sensor on my truck) around town when the tach stopped and the truck was cuttin out on me... At idle the truck would rev up by itself then return to idle. Cant get a cam sensor untill tomorrow sometime. Thinking this is the problem. Whatcha think?

Dude,

I would hope that is not it if I were you. I don't think the CMP can be accessed without removing the IP. That is quite the project for a $30 sensor.... bummer man!

Really no CKP on an '01? I had one go bad at about 135K and my symptoms were the same as you describe.

Well fellas I got a burst of energy tonight and went up to Cummins and bought a new cam sensor. I got it in and it seems to run a lot better and the idle is back to normal without any missing, no dead tach or having it rev up on its own.... The job CAN be done without removing the IP, however its NOT an easy task with someone with big hands!!! I had better luck getting the bolt out from the bottom and taking out and putting the new sensor in from the side... Took about an hour or so, not hard at all just a PITA in the really tight places... Was going to install the 5 inch exhaust tonight too, but the welder is out of wire.. Thanks for your help!!

According to the guy at cummins they had them on the 2001's but NOT on the 2001.5's. All mine has for a crank sensor is a metal "plate" with a bolt in it where it should be...
Im thinking mine is a 2001.5 the...
