Turbo Silencer ring?

Ive been reading about people removeing "the turbo silencer ring"

Ive only had my truck a few months so im still learning.

Where is it? What does it look like? What happens when you remove it? How to remove it? Why you remove it?

Im guessing removeing it just makes your turbo sound "cool"?

Positves / Negatives of removeing it ? ? ?

Use your search key with keywords silencer ring, there will be more than enough to read on it. Really easy to pull out and scores a 10 on the whole cool factor. good luck, cumminsboy

Remove the black intake hose from the turbo inlet. You will see a cone shaped disk held in by a snap ring (this is the silencer ring). Gently pry the snap ring from the groove using a small screwdriver (or tool of choice), remove the ring, reinstall the intake hose and test drive. You won't see a performance gain but the turbo should be quite a bit louder. Give it a try, some like it some don't . By the way where do you live in Idaho?

Canyon county, Sand Hollow area, Idaho.

I took my ring off and ran the motor parked didnt here any difference.

After I take my camper off ill test drive it.

seems like that ring is for air flow, I guess the space behind it and the gap create a muffler .

I might put it back on later.

You really can't hear the turbo at idle in or out of the truck. Really the only way to hear it at idle is to have straight pipe exhaust. The ring is not in there for air flow. It was an idea DC came up with to knock down the noise of the turbo. Only the turbos in the Rams have them. Any other B series 5.9 in any aplplication other than a Ram (heavy forklift, generators, marine propulsion) do not have silencer rings.

When I took mine off I noticed a slight difference as I still had the stock airbox at the time. When I switched to the BHAF that turbo whistle came alive.

It enjoy the the lil' whistle it has. Not much... I can turn on the stereo and no longer hear the whistle at 65 MPH. But I think spins up a bit quick without it... Like said about on gains in HP/Ft-Lbs there is none... Just my 2 cents.
