turbo reman?
will soon be taking my stock turbo off and replacing the housing with a ceramic coated piece. I have some shaft play and was wondering if anyone has a rebuild kit or upgrade parts for it? May as well help it out while its apart as I have 111,000 miles on the truck.
I am also ceramic coating an exhaust manifold and installing it, besides gaskets, are there any other parts i need that I am not aware of? |
Cummins has a rebuild kit for the HX-35 which includes all the bearings seals and expendables (I am not aware of aftermarket kits, although I am almost certain they exist, I just have the big C next door to where I work). It'll tighten it right up, I don't have the P/N right now but I'll look through my junk and see if I can dig it up for you.
Unless impeller is hitting housing NOW, a rebuild has no benefit. Don't fix something that ain't broke. Look up test for worn turbo.
lets put it this way....my shaft moves so much i dont know how its not hitting the housing! I think if i wait for the inevitable[duhhh][duhhh][duhhh]
I would err on the side of caution as I have a 24V in build right now that had to bore oversize because of ingested impeller material, things can get expensive pretty quick and at the price of a bottom end build the turbo kit looks like a bargin.
i cant believe no-one on here has fixed their turbo! SOOO from what i have been able to find out the past couple days, there are some aftermarket kits out there for around $48, the holeset kit from a turbo place is $120, but they do not have any and do not know when they will. has anyone used an aftermarket kit? are they reliable in their tolerances?
I did. Well, High Tech Turbo did. Send it in and have it come back as a hybrid.
You can get the rebuild kits on Fleabay. I've got a HX35 I'm going to rebuild here soon.
I want mine balanced because I spin'em pretty hard, so they go to the local builder here.
But they are already balanced. So unless you dropped it, bent it or added weight to it, it should still be balanced. The compressor wheel isn't keyed and it's balanced by itself.
Wish I'd took some before and after pictures. I will on the next one.

Turbo rebuilds
Bill, aka Infidel, the mechanically savvy Montana rancher, earlier recommended High Tech Turbo for $70.00 turbo rebuilds.

I called there the other day and the kit was $120, so i dont believe a rebuild would be $70.
Everyone on here must either live stock or buy an upgrade, cant believe i am the only one who would like to rebuild a turbo, but i have been told.......... |

I've got a HX35 torn apart right now. Waiting to get the rebuild kit to put it back together. They are very simple inside. I thought they had seals but there are none.
Attachment 68891 Attachment 68892 The HTT site said only $350 for a rebuild!:o |
Where are you getting your kit from? is it a holset kit or aftermarket?
