Truck stalled:0psi when cranking, then 2-4psi
Hi All,
I was coming home from 2 hour trip when my truck stalled approaching a stop. I then noticed 0psi on my gauge. I tried tapping the starter a few times to keep the LP running, but never saw any pressure. I disconnected my Van Aaken box with no luck, and ultimately had it towed to my regular car mechanic (no real diesel mechanics in this part of Metro DC).
My mechanic has noticed that after cranking, and releasing the key, the pressure comes up a few psi. He's going to throw on another LP (this one has only 10-15k over 2 years, but he is thinking this is an electrical issue.
Any ideas?
Pete

Sounds like the lift pump is junk, but if the truck died you may be in for bad news. I have run my truck with 0psi before the vp44 should suck up fuel. I know, 0psi is bad but I did not drive the truck very far. The point I am making is the vp44 may be junk too. Good luck.

Yep, sure enough, I need a vp44. We replaced the LP (this is #2, and only 2 years and 10k miles old) and have good pressure, but it's throwing the codes.
I was pretty exhausted on the trip home that day, but I didn't notice any fuel pressure drop. I know that morning it was running at 15psi.
I don't know if the LP died suddenly, or over the 2 hours on the ride home, but either way, it was enough to push the VP over the edge. I ordered the replacement from Midwest Fuel Injection.. I don't know about their technical reliability, but they gave great phone support, and you can't beat the price. Brian there told me that they only use genuine Bosch parts (maybe everyone does) and they use all the updates.
Meanwhile, I still don't know why this thing showed the few psi after letting off the starter, but it matters not at this point.
Thanks all,
Pete
