Transmission Trouble
 

I have a 2001 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L in it and recently had the tranny rebuilt...or so the guy says [duhhh]. I picked it up from him and on the way home a line blows and fluid leaks everywhere so i take it back, he supposedly fixes it and on the way home the second time same thing happens. I take it to a shop and they find a crimp in the line and replace it. On the way home from the shop a similar thing happens but from talking to the shop they think its overheating and blowing out the vent because it isnt as much fluid coming out and its leaking from the bell housing. The guy who "fixed" it the first time is tryin to tell me he thinks its an internal crack in the case? im no expert but no one else seems to know what hes talkin about. The shop that replaced the line says its stack shifting aka shifting 1,2,3,4, OD too early and whether it needs to shift or not. He told me he thinks the shift points need adjusted and recalibrated because of the 35" tires. I took it to the dodge dealer and they say a sound is coming from the tranny that could be inside the tranny itself or the torque converter. It seems to do this after bein on the road for about 40min or more and getting hot, anything less than that it drives fine aside from the weird shifting because of the bigger tires. Im not sure if i posted this in the right spot but i could really use any help on this. I paid $300 for the line to be replaced on top of what i paid the Edit to "rebuild" the tranny the first time and it still aint right, and the dealership wants $701? just to remove the tranny and look at. Im tryin to sell the darn truck but im not tryin to put 3-4grand into it just to sell it for 5 or 6 grand. Just curious if anyone on here has any ideas. I could really use the help and advice. ps. sorry for the novel.

Sounds like the first guy screwed it up, I would take it some where other than the dealer to get it fixed and then charge the first guy for it. The dealer will tell you you need a new tranny and ball joints if you let them deal with it.

Well the first guy who worked on it is turnin out to be kinda shady and he works from his house. I dont think he will pay for it and i have no written proof that he did the work if i wanted to bring the law into the matter. I just dont want to dump a lot more money into it just to sell it and still owe money ya know what i mean

it's not going to very very marketable without a decent transmission. I would take it to a good shop, and ask for an estimate. There's usually always a charge for this because a good shop will drop the pan before making a trustworthy diagnosis. There's always a chance a good shop can fix it without a complete rebuild.

yeah i know that much. this whole truck has just been a real pain and i want it gone. if i were to buy a used tranny for it would i need one from a 2001 specifically or will any work as long as its from that body style and 4x4 of course?
