Transmission - TC question
Transmission - TC question
Hello, I just found this site when looking for information on a problem I'm having with my 99 Ram 2500 Diesel, Auto Transmission.
I think the information I need is here some place I'm
hoping some one can point me in the rith direction.

Here is the problem. At slow speed, low low load the TC goes in and out when in overdrive. I took it to a transmission place, they said the codes we all messed up and sent me to the dealer. The dealer replaces something they called an AP sensor. That fixed the problem for 3 months, now it is back. The dealer is now telling me I need a new alternator or controler, but they don't know which.

Sounds like they are in guess mode. I've always done my own work on my vehicles, but this is the first auto transmission I have had.

Thanks,
Ron

Welcome to the site ronw,

You might try this and see if it helps any. There are also more FAQ's located in our Tech Facts section which you can find at the top of the page under the banner.

APPS Reset Procedure

This procedure has shown to help 24 valve ISB engines. It is basically teaching the fly by wire accelerator on these trucks to reread the position of the pedal and it's limits. Most complaints this will help with is poor acceleration, improper shifting, bucking in 5 and 6 speeds. Has been known to increase fuel mileage in some instances.

1. Set parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cables on both batteries
3. Turn ignition key to run(to drain any remaining capacitors)
4. Let truck sit for 30 minutes( this is the recommended minimum)
5. Return ignition to OFF position
6. Reconnect both batteries and secure, not a timed event
7. Turn key to run position(not start) and depress accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor
8. Allow pedal to return to top position slowly
9. Turn ignition switch OFF
10.Release parking brake
Re:Transmission - TC question
Thanks for the help.

I called Bill, he pointed me to a TSB 18-02-99. It describes the problem to a tee. I call the dealer back, he said they thought they had done the update but were not 100% sure. I took the truck back in to have it rechecked. They claim the PCM had all the latest updates. So I go to get the truck not sure where to go next.

Well now the truck is fine, the transmission is shifting slightly different than it did before and the TC is staying locked. Hum....

I Guess the next step is to run it for a week or two and see if it comes back.

Thanks again,
Ron
