Transmission Problem??
I have a 2000 Ram 2500 24 valve cummins with an automatic transmission. That I just purchased. The problem is when I am up to speed around 35 MPH it seems to want to shift up and down between gears it also does this around 45 MPH and 50 MPH. It seems that maybe the tranny is shifting too soon or doesn't know what gear to be in. This only happens at a steady speed, When I push the throttle like getting on a highway on ramp to get up to speed I don't have a problem with the "up down" shifting. My truck has 102,000 miles on it and according to the Carfax that came with the truck the tranny was serviced at 56,000 miles. Could this be just a tranny filter and fluid change to solve the problem or may it be a tranny sensor or something? If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. I hope I don't have to start dumping money in it before I make the first payment! ANYONE WITH ANY INFO ON THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING FEEL FREE TO POST YOUR COMMENT. THANKS

My truck did that if i held it at 35 i just turned the overdrive off and it stopped gear searching but at 65-70 it would try to gear search and jolt the whole truck around really annoying i took it to a tranny shop and they said that one of my wires and 2 selionoids were bad and they replaced them (300 dollars) after i had that done it has been working fine. The guy also told me that there are not to many trucks that make it over 150000 with a stock tranny and he was suprised i had 170000 on mine. i dont know if he was b/s or not but i still am on my stock tranny with the edge running 5/5 all day
Do some searching for shifting probs. I cleaned my alternator output connection and my gear searching problem went away. It has to do with electrical noise getting to whatever makes an electronic (47rE )transmission shift. My dealer here told me I needed a new tranny. Little did he know he was talking to a mechanic. I put a bug in SAE's ear over that one... Hope this helps..
Thanks for your comments! I finally have somewhere to start. I have another question...Would it hurt the tranny to run it like this or should I get it fixed ASAP? I plan on taking it in after I get back from vacation in three weeks. And as for letting my truck sit for three weeks should I have someone start and let it warm up while I'm gone or just let it set for 3 weeks while I'm gone? Right now it's about 40 degrees out, but who know what the weather will bring while I'm away? Thanks again for your comments!...Brandon
