My front drivline bolts came out . one stayed in and rotated around and hit the cross beam. This broke the case.

Mine did the same thing last December, on the eve of a 27" snow. Needless to say, I check those bolts every now and then, to make sure they are still tight.

broken transfer case

last sunday i put my 99 dodge in 4wd and it made a clunk clunk noise! i found out that 3 of the drive line bolts were gone and the drive line swung over on the last bolt knocking a fist size hole in my front housing of my transfer case !!! i thought i must be the only one that ever happened to!!!

It may seem common, but this (post) is the most that I have heard of the occurance. At least on mine, it was a simple matter that when the transmission was removed and rebuild, I don't think that they used locktite when they reinstalled the bolts. I don't think it is a design flaw- bolts back out. They do need locktite or something else to keep them in, though. At this point, I just periodically check mine, when I am under it changing the oil.
