Trans. OD

No OD in my 95 dodge 3500 diesel. I changed fluid and it smelled burnt. I have been told that the OD unit has gone out and it needs to be rebuilt. Any thoughts?

My son is a dodge mechanic. He says that the OD is the most failed part of these trans. Burnt fluid, no OD, sounds like it!
