Tranny shifting

I have an 01 with 50k. Sometimes when i really get on it it wont shift into 3rd until I let off then it shifts. If I dont hold it to the floor it will shift perfect? The truck has a nice firm shift. Thanx

Make sure your kickdown band is adjusted correctly (external on drivers side of trans. You'll see the adjuster right above and forward of the linkage on the trans). You might also have the kickdown linkage checked/adjusted.

Shifting

Hi, how do I adjust this? I am a certified master tech and I own my own garage. I dont do alot of transmission work so I really dont know about it. Now can this be an internal problem? If I remove the kick down cable can i test it, i know it wont kick down but will this work? Thanx,

Paul

Don't drive with cable unhooked. You get no line rise and could damage trans. Rough adjustment is at WOT lever at trans should be between 3/16 of and full travel. Do very light throttle take off, allow 1-2 shift, go to floor, should downshift to low. This confirms at least minimum TV adj. What is line pressure, some shops adjust line pressure too high and affect shifts. HTH.
