Tires....

hey guys, i looked today at my tires, i have the Michelins LTX tires, but theyre only a load range D tire....is load range D ok/safe for these trucks or should i go about finding some load range Es asap....i just want to be safe and make sure that this isnt going to harm the truck or myself any. Thanks guys

Well, that depends on how you use your truck. If you are not hauling heavy loads, then load range D is probably OK, however if you are hauling heavy loads then you need load range E, as you suspected Of course I have had a 20' gooseneck that I haul hay on for years and it has had P rated tires rather than LT. I was suprised last year when I had to replace 2 tires and I saw the ones I had on it were Passenger tires and not truck tires.... Was that safe? NO, but then I try not to overload it either(but I am sure I was over the rated load for the tires a tad)

well, i pull a 3700lb race truck on it with about a 1500 lb trailer, and the tires now are only rated at 3505 lbs each.....so im thinking it wouldnt be in my best interest to take my other truck to the track until i get some E's on it

3505 lbs is an extremely high rating

I would stay with it!

The 245s or 265s that come on these trucks are rated for 3042 and 3415, at least in the Michelin LTX M/S or A/S

IMO, if you are exceeding the load rating of D load range tire in 265-315 tire, you are probably exceeding the rating of the truck

Almost all D tires 265 or bigger exceed the load rating of E tires in a 245. Which is what most have. Mine had 265s though.

Also, I've towed similar weight cars and trailers, and my rear tires don't squat as bad as the front

I run 315/75R16D which are rated for 3195 lbs. And I run less air. Usually 42-45 lbs in the rear. 48 or so in front.

figuring the stock 02 2500 comes with 265 Michelins LR E, going to a 285 Michelin LR D there is only 110 lb per tire going from an E to a D. The truck rides better w/ D's on it also.

I've hauled heavy load of fire wood (1.25 cords) on a set of load range D before... No big deal... Just keep them aired up to MAX pressure when haulin' heavy...
